Today we went and got our new chicks. In a few months they will be producing some eggs for us! We have plenty of eggs now, but this is a hobby as well as we sell the eggs for a little extra money and it helps other people to eat healthy.
We got 6 Sussex chicks:
Cute, huh?
We also got there and they happened to have Guinea Fowl which I have been thinking of getting. They are voracious tick eaters and also eat wasps. They are supposed to be a lot of fun and apparently actually act like "watch dogs" for your property! So we got 3!!!
How about a couple of pics with the other members of the family?
Ethan's makes me smile! Gayle
ReplyDeleteAwweee ! Love the baby chicks. I can't believe how good the dogs are with them. We only have 3 chickens left and have thought about getting a few more.
ReplyDeleteOur boys are SO well behaved and gentle. Not surprising about Archer, really, but Chakotay has an extremely high prey drive, but he seems to know that these our family babies, not to be chased!

Our neighbor used to raise Guinea hens along with his peacocks. Guineas are fun, but man, are they dumb! Seriously, they are the stupid branch of the bird world. His never lasted very long before something ate them, and he finally gave up.
ReplyDeleteCute chicks! :D
That's interesting - I have been reading that they are pretty smart!
DeleteWell, they can't be any dumber then chickens, that's for sure!!! :))))
